Find tranquility on the beautiful island of Statia, also called Sint Eustatius, in the Netherlands Antilles - the Dutch Caribbean.

These two properties have wonderful views of the sea placed at the foot of The Quill. The houses face west for spectacular sunsets. Although Statia is in the hurricane belt, both houses stayed in the best condition during past hurricanes and have sturdy construction.

The bottom level of the first building is split into a studio apartment and a barn side by side. It is concrete construction. The apartment has a porch, open kitchen/living/bedroom space and a bathroom. The apartment is approx. ± 50m2 (538 sq.ft.)

One the top level is another apartment approx. ± 60m2 (645 sq.ft.) The construction is tropical hardwood from the Amazon jungle. It has a very pig porch, small living/kitchen area, one bedroom with walk-in closet, bathroom and attic storage.

The second building is a small 2 story family house. It is tropical hardwood construction built on top of a concrete cistern ± 70m2 (753 sq.ft.) used by both buildings. The first floor of the house has an open kitchen/living room and a bathroom. A wooden stair gives access to the two bedrooms on the top floor.

Both of these buildings have hurricane roof tiles and strong roofs - asbestos free, lifetime colored from Denmark. The homes are wired for both 110 and 220 volt electricity. Hot and cold water pipes run throughout the homes although only the cold pipes are currently in use. This property was designed for the owner to live in the small family home and to rent out the studio and 1 bedroom units.

Statia is a small friendly island with a population of about 2100 people of many nationalities. Statia is located in the North Eastern Caribbean 150 miles east of Puerto Rico, 90 miles east of St. Croix, 38 miles south of St. Maarten and 17 miles south-east of Saba. Statia lies 17.00 in latitude and 63.04 in longitude and is 5 miles long and 2 miles wide (11.8 sq. miles). Together with sister islands Saba and St. Maarten, Statia forms the Windward Islands of the Dutch Caribbean.

Language
Dutch is the official language used in government administration and schools. English is spoken everywhere. But be assured whatever language you may speak, Statians will find a way to communicate.

Climate
Generally dry and sunny. Light constant North East trade winds bring constant cool breezes and sufficient moisture to keep average day time temperatures down to about 27 degrees Celsius. The average night time temperatures drop to a comfortable 23 degrees. Rainfall occurs in showers of medium duration during the months of April, June and September.

Business Hours
Offices and stores are usually open from 8.00 am to 18.00 pm. Supermarkets usually remain open until 19.00.

Credit Cards
Most major credit cards are accepted. If in any doubt, check first.

Currency
The Antillian guilder is tied to the United States dollar at a rate of US$1.00 = NAFL 1.80. The US dollar is widely accepted. Local banks will exchange other foreign currency.

Electricity
The voltage is 110 A.C. 60 cycles. 220 voltage A.C. will not work without a transformer. Plugs tend to be two flat prongs.

Time
Atlantic standard time; the same as Eastern daylight saving time, all year round.

What to Wear
For the most part, casual informal summer wear is the rule in Statia. Semi-formal clothing is advisable for a night out in one of the island's cozy restaurants. No bathing suits on street.
